Last week I went to the salvation army auto auction as I do every month. This month though, I was on a mission to get a little something just to run the 13 miles back and forth to work in, and othe little running around since my dumb a$$ sold my Honda. I miss her!

Anyway I looked at a 92 Camry that has 102k miles on it ans was pretty clean. But what really caught my eye was a 1989 Honda Accord LXi. I BS you not, this car was cleaner than the 2000 Accord coupe that I sold. It was amazing, ALL the power stuff worked and the inside was simply immaculate. With 202k miles, it really blew my mind! It ran very well, seemed to shift fine (its an automatic), and didnt have a single rust spot. It had a little dent in the rear door on the drivers side, but no biggie. I ran a good ole carfax and found that it was a Texas car until 2 years ago when it came to VA.

Well, the Honda was #10 in line so I was hoping not to be there long. Up she comes, and I have competition. I really didnt want to go over $7-800, but it was too clean to pass up. $950 later, she was all mine. I took it up to my Honda/Acura mechanic and what he thought was a $hitbox when I called to tell him about it, ended up getting two thumbs up from even his meticulous self.

The one previous owners name and address was on the title, so I took that info and found his phone number. I called him today to tell him I bought his car, hoping to get a little more info on it. I let him know that I was shocked and amazed at the condition of it. He could not have been a nicer guy. He said his son (a former William and Mary student) drove the car for a couple years and left it there when he was given another car. So he donated it. He said he would dig up the old records for me, and began to tell of a maintainence history that rivaled just about anyone I have ever heard. He also said he was making room for his dream car, what else but a BMW. Well that sparked quite a conversation!

He wants an E39 5 series. He said the knew one has some "knob thing" that he didnt like so he would probably get an 03. I was throwing out all sors of BMW jargon, told him about my E38, he told me about his time in Germany and the first time he ever drove one. From that point he knew he would eventually have a BMW. Well, his birthday is coming up and he said thats what he is going to get! I invited him to the board, and made sure he had my name and phone number in case he had any questions. I told him I "knew" a guy in Seattle that had both an E39, and an E38 that would be PERFECT to as questions to. Guess who?

Anyway, I thought it was kinda cool that buying a $950 16 year old car led to meeting what I hope will soon be an enthusiast. Oh yeah, here is my little Honda. 31 MPG so far!!!
