Wow!!!

What a car!

I think I now fully understand why all of you are true fans of the E38. Owning a BMW was simply my dream car when I started college. Last month I was fortunate enough to find a '96 il for less that $10K with 70K miles on it. I bought it purely because of the look and the luxury associated with BMWs.

I had no clue that Judy, my used/new to me car, was such a lady in the street and a flat out beast on the highway.

This car is so much fun to drive. Granted I have driven around Dallas for short stints on the freeway; nothing in those travels revealed Judy's more sinister, less classy side.

On this past Thursday, I drove home to visit my parents in Arkansas. Somewhere between Farmersville and Greenville on Hwy. 380, a true 2 lane highway, I was enjoying my new Jeff Lorber CD. I was admiring the concert hall DSP setting while listening to the upbeat jazz compilations at a very low volume. Simply enjoying the cold A/C, the strokes of piano keys, and the comfortable ride.

I had cruised up behind a Cadillac DTS, and a blue Malibu that were both stuck behind a concrete mixing truck. After a two miles of doing 45 and waiting on the two aforementioned to pass the truck in vain, I went for it.

I floored the throttle. The quiteness was succumbed by Judy's roar. It was as if the yellow lights on an NHRA christmas tree had reached their brightest glow (That is when the racers nail it and the roar of horsepower is heard). You can feel the vibrations as the top fuel racers pedal the throttle all the way to the end of the track.

The only thing I felt on this day was an adrenaline rush as Judy inhaled all three vehicles under the unexpected amount of acceleration. Momentarily I was hipnotized as I watched the yellow hyphens move faster and faster. When I looked down at the speedometer, I had clipped 105 mph. My heart, literally, began to race as I got out f the throttle and passing lane. As I finally settled down and tapped the cruise control resume button, I could again hear the mellow tunes of jazz again. I must say that it took a minutes to fully enjoy cruising at 70 mph again.

I didn't instantaneously, fully detox from feeling 'Judy jump smoothly into her passing gear'. I passed an F150 before I reached Greenville just because. Again, it felt like I was running down hill passing a walking hiker. Wow!! My heart fluttered again.

Given the nature of DPS activity on I30 again I began to cruise and enjoy Judy's ability to float mile after mile while pleasingly consuming 27 mpg.

This was my first road trip that offered a lasting impression and a new understanding of why BMWs are so popular. For a big car it drives extremely well, even in the curves near my hometown.

Wow!! This car is so fun to drive.
Enjoy the simple things in life men -- run downhill from time to time.

Enjoy the luxurious ride that cages the beast within.
