Here is a write up on how to remove and replace worn transmission mounts. This was done on a model year 2000 11/99 build e38.

Tools

2 Transmission Mounts -- $22.70

Jack the car up. I love my Rhino Ramps!

Start with removing the bottom 13mm nuts

The upper nuts are the job killer.
You need skilled hands in this tight space.
They are located here.

Close up shot of the 13mm nuts that need to be removed.
Use the 13mm wrench to remove the nuts.

Place the 4x4 block of wood behind the gearbox support.
It fits perfectly between that and the transmission pan.
Now jack it up until you can get the old mounts out like this.

Close up shot of the removed mount location.

Difference in the new to old mounts.
As Edwin would say "It was necessary"

This nub faces the rear when installed.
Look back two pics and you can see the slot it must be in when installed.

This notch is tricky.
There is a matching nub that this notch needs to sit in on the top of the gearbox support that you can not see.
Put the mount in place making sure the notch and nub are together.
Hold it in place and put on the bottom 13mm nut just snug.
This will hold the mount in place properly for when you lower the jack and it all lines up.

Thanks for looking!
