Question re Exhaust System 1998 323is

Own a '98 323is. 154,000 miles.
Muffler sounds like it is going.
Must I replace the entire length of the exhaust system ?
Or just the rear pipe section, or what ?
p.s. everyone is out of stock of everything that I night need.
Advice appreciated.
