I have 170K on a V8 in a '98 740, which has always had synthetic oil (I bought it with about 70K on it) and the cam-shaft area (under the valve covers) is pristine.

I've followed the lights on the 7 and will do the same on the 2003 325 we just bought.

If you want to be conservative, 10K would be a good number.

Keep in mind that the calculation on oil-change intervals is based on driving experience.

If you do a lot of short trips, particularly where the oil doesn't heat up, the change interval will be shorter. If only good long trips, it will be longer.
