Easy swap. The '01 750iL (93,000 miles) appears to take the same fuel filter ($19.50 from Max at oembimmerparts.com) as the '97 740iL -- a single inlet and outlet. Incidentally, that's a great price. I did some checking around and the best price I could get from a BMW dealer was $33. There's a different version of the filter that has an integrated regulator but, surprisingly, this car doesn't use it. That's fine by me as the one with the regulator is more expensive (about $56 from Max).



The fuel filter is located directly beneath the front passenger seat. You'll need 8mm and 10mm socket screwdrivers to remove the plastic cover panel, a 5mm socket to loosen the hose clamps on the inlet and outlet, an 8mm allen wrench to loosen the filter bracket, a couple of small pinch pliers (or clamps) to pinch off the rubber fuel lines, and a bucket to catch the fuel spillage. Take care to orient the filter such that the arrow on it points toward the front of the car (from the fuel tank to the engine).

Once you get the car up in the air, it only takes about 10 minutes to change the filter.
