Subject: Twisted back seat

A few days ago, the twisted seat syndrome affected the driver seat of my 1990 525i. Upon inspection of the cable assemblies, the inside cables were short by 1/2 inch. I removed the seat from the car (collected $1.50 in change) to remove the cables, shortened the jacket by 1/2 inch, and joined the jacket with a piece of rubber hose and two clamps.

1: The jacket was cut about 3 inches from the end of the cable, near the reduction gear for the left ...

2: and right sides.

3: The motor pivots on its mount to release the motor end of the cable. Both sides need to be loosened to release the cables.

4: A small 8 mm wrench did the trick.

5: To untwist the seat, I used a drill to twist the motor end of the cable until 5 teeth were visible ...

6: on both sides of each reduction gear assembly. With 5 teeth visible, it was easy to put the seat back in the car.

Pictures of the seat belt attachment and the seat belt height adjuster are not shown. The results were very good. Once in place, the seat didn't need any further adjustment.
