Subject: Official word on rolling codes and older BMW garage door openers

For those of you who have a '97 or earlier E38 with a garage door opener that emits a RED light, the following response I received from HomeLink explains that it doesn't work with rolling code systems. Instead it must be replaced with a unit that has a yellow or amber light.
---------------------------
Dear Mr. Cecil,

Thank you for visiting our HomeLink website and for your inquiry. If at anytime you would like to speak with someone, please contact our HomeLink customer service center at 1-800-355-3515 M-F 6am to 7pm and S&S 7am to 5pm MST and they will be happy to assist you while you are on the phone.

I am sorry but we do not sell HomeLink as an aftermarket product. We sell directly to automotive manufacturers. You may want to visit your local BMW dealership where you can purchase a new HomeLink module that is rolling code compatible. To ensure you get a rolling code module make sure the led indicator light is amber or yellow. I apologize for any inconveniences.

Feel free to contact me again if you have additional comments or questions.

Best Regards,
Claudette Webb
