I extracted the data from various sources such as the TIS cd. These sources did not differentiate between the m62 and the m62tu, but they did for the m52/m52tu. If there's interest, I may be able to get the m62 & m62tu numbers broken out if someone can tell me what month/year (of manufacture, not model year) BMW started using the m62tu instead of the m62 - assuming it was a clean break.

I only did general categories because there were a lot of different combinations. I have a rough "beta" which would allow you to punch in the last seven of a VIN and it will tell you how many cars were made with the same chassis type, motor, transmission, right/left hand drive and market. Unfortunately, I've not seen any way to reliably map manufacture dates to model years across the board.
