Subject: Coding of Cars for split screen NAV and BMW Assist

For info, I have been trying to solve the issue of some NAVs that do not run split screen radio and that display BMW Assist when the car is equipped with a Bluetooth ULF (and that does not have BMW Assist), what I found out with the co-operation of BMW:

(1) The NAV split screen issue occurs when the NAV computer is coded in a car that would have been originally manufactured with a 4:3 non split screen system, should it have had one fitted at the time it was made.

(2) The BMW Assist menu option appears when a BT ULF is fitted for the
same reason, because such a car would have been equipped with a standard fixed phone that could be used for BMW Assist.

The only way to correctly fix this is to get a completely new ZCS code
from BMW Germany, they are not easy to obtain and you have to fight for this. It has taken me a week and three attempts to get this, the dealer incurred 600 UK pounds of cost and only charged 188 pounds in the end. It is NOW fixed!!!! (Two new ZCS codes did not work, DIS could not produce one as standard, and could not "convert" the car, hence it had to be issued and typed in by hand).

The quick and dirty way is to code your NAV computer in a later car and re-fit to your car, but it will display the chassis number of that car.

However, we did try a downgrade and upgrade in a later car, and that
also worked and it did not have any chassis number in the system, this is better, but if it is ever re-coded in the older car the function is reverted !!

So the best way is a new ZCS number, but hard to get.
