Subject: 01 540it fron passenger side window

Got something done today before going out of town tomorrow for two weeks. Fixed the '01 540it passenger side window. When I got the car last months, it would cock rolling down. That was the reason why when I picked the car up the master power window switch was taped up with duct tape.

The door card removal on the e39 is pretty easy. BMW has kept up with the good tradition from e34.

There are only two screws for the entire door card. The rest are snapped on plastic buttons same as the e34.

The first screw is on the door lever on the inside behind the plastic plug. It is a torx.

The second screw is inside the air duct, a philips.

Here is the door card removed and laid on the hood.

Removal of the speaker and central lock unit (is it the central lock unit?) is trivial after the door card is removed. So it the air bag. I took care to disconnect the battery positive post in the trunk before disconnecting the air bag on the door. Still I thought I saw the airbag light came on after the job was done. Will have to look further after I come back.

There are two clips fastening the lower edge of the window pane cushioned with rubber. In my case the rear one was loose, resulting in the window to cock when lowered. The problem is trivial to fix. Here is the front clip.

This is the rear one I reattached. I greased the cable before buttoning it up.

Now the window is working again.

The only interior deficiency left is the glove box. But a replacement is on its way.
