I ended up buying the '04. I too was hesitant to buy a first year but the thing was a gem. I've got a good connection in my local dealer service department so I had him run the VIN and it had all regular maintenance plus the software upgrades. I felt pretty confident about the car so I pulled the trigger. Of course the ac compressor was making a funny noise after driving off the lot but dealer is installing a new one this week.

I've got to tell you it's an impressive car. Rides great and has a ton of power. I love the wife's 7 for its luxury but also love the 5's performance and handling. My brother in law has a 7 and took the 5er for a ride and was in love with the car.
