First, let me say that you *can*, despite what some installers will tell you, place the satellite antenna under the dash or under the rear parcel shelf, inside the car. Radio waves pass through plastic, glass and fiberboard/cardboard. Therefore, it's ok to place the antenna in a location where it's not external to the car as long as it has line-of-sight to the sky through any of those materials.

I don't see how the presence or absence of BMW Assist would affect either XM or Sirius.

I installed a Blitzsafe CD changer interface and digital interface in my '97 740iL for a Pioneer XM receiver. It works flawlessly. See Pioneer XM satellite radio integration in a '97 740iL.

For Sirius, you could do something similar, or you could retrofit the BMW Sirius-ready receiver into your car. Martin Bishop has a web site called bimmernav.com that has a lot of info on this. He's been very active on the Nav Forum here on BimmerBoard and a number of BimmerBoard members have added Sirius to their 7-series cars. I think it would probably work in your case, too. The Sirius option allows the display of the channel name, song, artist, etc. on your navigation or MID, too.

I hope this helps. Please let us know what you do.
