Subject: ... a couple tries to buy your car for the new e65 price...no sh1t...!

Long story short - happened in August....

A couple, new and unfamiliar with BMW's and determined to "reward themselves" were looking to buy a new 5 or 7 series. I heard the salesman having some trouble with them - they weren't falling in love with the looks of the new models. My car has no badging and it was in the lot with no plates (the dealer was popping on some plain black dealer plate holders for free).

Granted, the car was particularly clean and shiny that day and most ageing parts have been replaced. I found the couple trying to get into it, with the salesman chasing after them. "Now THIS is the one we want - what model is it!? Does it cost more than the last car you showed us"

I had to tell them it was a 95, the last of the line was in 01 and the replacement was the e65 parked in the showroom in front of us ( "last" car they had been shown....

I had to leave them disappointed. The last thing I heard was something from the wife like "Michael, now THAT'S what I expected when you said a big BMW. The others are just so common..."

Nice. the car has cost me less than 1 years depreciation on a new 7. Or S-Class. Or A8. Or LS. And nothing looks better coming at you in the rear view mirror.

I may be 14 but I haven't lost my looks, I hope...!
