I have used Bar's to stop a small HG leak in my 3 series M42 (277k). It worked fine, but is not a substitute for a proper HG r&r. The Bar's stalled tmy minor coolant leak for 6 months - spring - when I could get around to the job.
The Bar's to get is not the stuff hanging on the hook out in the store, but the tablets, which you may have ask the counter guy for. I know that CarQuest stocks the tablets.
Bar's works well on cars that are in use on a daily basis. If you car sets idle for a month or so, it can settle out and that could be problematic for heater cores, tight bend hoses and coolant pumps.
Even with the Bar's, you're still running on borrowed time.
