Subject: Head Gasket in a bottle...

Hello, (long time reader, first time posting here)

I have 91' 535i with 242k on the dash.

About 4-5 months ago I replaced the thermostat/water pump and their corresponding gaskets b/c puddles began to appear underneath the front of the car. In addition, I replaced all of the radiator hoses as well.

Ever since then I've noticed that about once a month my car will run hot, and when I go to check the coolant, its magically disappeared. I started leaning towards the idea of the head gasket going, and believe my fears have been confirmed. It's turned cold the past week or so here in NC and there's a nice billowing of sweet white smoke from my exhaust each morning, after the car has warmed up. That along with rougher idle at start up have led me to believe the head gasket is leaking.

In short, I can't justify dumping $1500 or so into the repair and don't have the time to attempt replacing the headgasket on my own.

I've check the archives but wanted to see if anyone had any more recent feedback (positive or negative)about these headgasket in a bottle products (Bar's Leak, Irontite, Steel Seal, etc..)

Thanks in Advance
Law
