Safelite did not listen to me when I told them I needed a Rain sensing windshield (Remember, I retrofitted the rain sensor on my '98, see www.e38.org for write-up). So, when I went for my appointment, the service tech said uh-oh we have a windsheild without the rain sensor prism. Bottom line, Safelite said it was dealer part only. I left and contacted Binswanger who confirmed.

I purchased the windshield from local BMW dealer for $474.98 (51-31-8-261-069, $593 list) and it is being delivered to Safelite who will install for $100.00 labor. The Safelite tech acknowledge the sensitivity to wind noise and pointed out to me that the upper rubber gasket was not genuine BMW, but a generic seal. Comparing to new gasket/seal, he was right. He knew about the spacer and sunroof drain tubes, etc. I handed him the BMW install instructions.

I have a new appointment set up for tomorrow morning...we will see.

Incidentally, the BMW service departmetn wanted $825 to furnish and install.
