Subject: I'm not totally sold on the Electoral College - but think of this...

In 2000 the popular vote winner (Al Gore) won by a margin less than the margin of error. If not for the Electoral College, we would have had the recount disaster in every single precint throughout the country. Think of the fraud...

Speaking of fraud, everybody knows Chicago politics is chock full of it. But in a Presidential election, it can only affect Illinois. If Illinois goes solidly Democrat, then the fraud in Chicago doesn't matter. But if we had a popular vote nationwide, 100,000 fraudulent votes in Chicago could make a huge difference. (And yes, you can make a Republican fraud in a red-state argument, too.)

The Electoral College is not perfect, but I think it prevents a lot of problems we would see in a national popular vote.
