I have pulled the cluster, took a look at the bulbs and connections.
There are two bulb positions that are labeled with a battery symbol, one with the number 1, the other with the number 2 ) in my instrument cluster, but only one ( the one with the number 1 ) has a bulb in it. The plastic and metal holder for the bulb are missing as well. There are a couple other missing bulbs in the cluster as well. Hard to tell if that is correct, or if someone pulled them and that is contributing to the issues.

Also, on the grounding, could it be that the brake pedal switch is bad, and grounding? I found a post on this site that seemed to lead to problems for another owner that sounded similar to mine.
