I just bought an E34 ( 92 525i ) early in September.

I am having a bit of trouble with the old girl.

Brief history,
Replaced Water Pump, seems to be working OK.
Just replaced Alternator, old unit's bearing were shot.

The symptoms ( which led to the alternator repl )
Has happened 3 times, in roughly this manner:

Driving along,
Anti lock light comes on,
Center readout displays "Brake LT Circuit"
Check Engine light on left comes on.

More or less simultaneously. Engine still running.

Speedometer and tach intermittently fall to zero ( car is moving, engine is running, on one occasion, running poorly ).

I drove it home ( no overheating ), at the end I get the following message on the center readout:

Check Control
Owner's Manual
( on one occasion, there was a red "plus" ( + ) sign just to the left of that ).
When I turn off the car, I get the following in the center readout:
Inspection,
and there is a "grid" below that, the two "lights"/indicators all the way to the left light up.

Alternator has been replaced by me,
battery was replaced by prev owner. Seems to charge OK.
Battery cables look OK, no corrosion found. I have inspected what I can of other electrical wiring in the car ( the big stuff ), and all I have found has looked OK.

Any ideas on what to check next?
