at its highest speed (see previous post) The problem was the temperature sensor (#12) which is mounted in the lower radiator hose.

It's simple to replace - just press in the two tabs (red arrows) and pull it out.

You can probably replace it without losing much coolant, but I elected to drain the coolant and replace the radiator hoses while I was at it.
