Subject: Re: Check your tire/tyre pressure

When you check the pressure in your tire, I'm sure everyone knows to check it when the tires are cold since the pressure increases as the tire warms up from being driven. What I do see a lot of is that people inflate their tires to what the specs are on the car....and forget about the specs of the tire.

The inflation specs on the car and in the manual refer to the original equipment tires only. If you inflate your brand new tires to what the sticker on the car say, you are probably under-inflating your tires. As an example, my 01 740il Sport with the M-pars had brand new Falkens mounted on them. I checked the specs on the tires and the rear indicated 51psi and the fronts were 50psi. All four tires were nearly 15psi low. The different in ride quality and handling was amazing when they were all inflated properly.

2001 740il Sport - No mods...yet
1985 635CSi - 250,000 miles and still running strong
