Subject: IPOD integration with BMW: details & some photos

Per my previous post I was able fully integrate Ipod into my e38. Now, here are some details.
1) I've decided to leverage IceLink+ kit from Dension, as base for Ipod integration. The kit comes with the famous RadioShack A/D converter (but modified for 12V power supply), 15ft extension cable (for trunk install), the main adaptor, cradle or active cable for Ipod connection and bunch of manuals.

2) I followed TIS instructions and removed trunk covers, rear seat, and disassembled center console enough so I could fish the wire all the way to the front. I run the wire from the trunk following phone harness (entering cabin under rear center armrest, center tunnerl - that was fun!!! and then along the passenger side of teh center console all the way to the front. Here you can the wire that connects the IceLink adaptor and Ipod cradle.

For now, I keep Icelink adaptor behind the passenger' side center console carpet sidewall

3)I installed A/D converter and another adaptor plug (for the IceliNK+ extension cable and 3 pin input, and analog line audio output - all part of the kit) on the same bracket where CPT7000 TCU module used to be - behind the BT and/or TV module

4)As I was planning on adding the switch box (to toggle between Ipod and CDC), I also had to run 1 wire to the front, this time to the driver side. The switch was installed on empty cover:

5) Now about the switch box. I was able to find all original parts needed for connectors (see my my early post). Since my e38 also has DSP, and IceLink+ kit was coming with coaxial cable, I had to figure out how to make all this work. Thanks to LA-Sean, I've learned that those connectors are SMB type, and later I found out that AMP was making those for BMW. The cable itself is really a 50 Ohm RG174/U cable.
To be safe, I've decided to switch both IBus and Audio signals. To accomplish that I used a 12V relay that is capable of toggling 2 pairs of contacts at the same time. I also found an aluminum box that would fit a few SMB contacts, some wires and relay.

6) Since I already had BT kit installed, I didn't have SES module, so I put the box in that location

7) IceLink+ support ID3V2 text. It's in beta, but it works. This is a song from BMW Audiophile sample CD
