Your car is pre-wired for phone, but not specifically Bluetooth. The Bluetooth system came along after your car, so your existing wiring does not have the same plugs that the BT system needs. You will need to create the adapter described in this thread.

Additionally, you will also need to wire a pairing button for your E46. You will need to modify that wiring as well. Check out www.bimmernav.com; the installation and complete kits are well-documented there. Bimmernav is one of the best places to buy complete BT kits with all of the necessary wiring adapters.

Your car is not pre-wired for navigation. BMW used an entirely different wiring harness for cars with navigation versus those with the standard audio system. So, you will have to buy or make a navigation retrofit harness. Check out the Navigation forum for examples and complete parts lists for navigation retrofits.
