What Imus said about the Rutgers team is absolutely nothing in comparison to what SOME others think (and even say) about minorities in general. And the other point I was trying to make is that the absolute worse offenders are the same people who look exactly like the Rutgers team. It's sickening and blatently double standard-ish for minorities to run around degrading each other (be it in print, videos, songs, movies) yet expect no one else to do so. That's the argument I've heard, why are the things said in these (ridiculous) songs and seen on these videos off limits to everyone except the originators? I can't really argue against that.

You are right as well, it's hard to gauge how far we have come. No doubt things are tremendously better than they ever were. All I personally have at this point it historical references from media and family. But I dont think it's hard to see where we are. Maybe my antenna are tuned in a bit more having been born and raised in the great Commonwealth of VA. It takes no time to be reminded about the "pockets" in a place that embodies diversity but doesnt always seem to embrace it. Am I whining and crying and complaining about it? Nope, it is what it is. And those who are whining and crying and complaining about it need to find the nearest mirror, look in it and ask themselves, what am I doing about it? Hopefully that made more sense than it did before.
