I've had the same issue for a while and went through the same exercise w/ BMWNA; but I've been reluctant to break open the MID and have at it, even though I had looked through the E38 write-up.

How difficult would you characterize this job? I confess to getting intimidated by the detailed nature of the work and what seems like for me a high potential opportunity for error; I'm afraid I'll make things worse. Did this job become more self-evident as you got into it? And as long as one is patient and meticulous with the parts, you won't get into trouble?

I'm on the verge of following your lead, but still need a push over the edge.
