Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger reportedly already took delivery of his.

As for the M1 Hommage, I like it. I believe BMW's M division ought to build it. Right now, the M Division doesn't have a flagship vehicle -- the M5 and M6 share both parts and positions at the top of the M Division food chain. To my knowledge, the Z4 based M-Coupe and M-Roadster are at the entry level, powered by the last-gen E46 M3's 333hp 3.2L inline six and priced around $50k. Then you have the V8-powered M3, a trio of models consisting of a carbon-fiber roof coupe, a folding metal top convertible, and a steel roof 4-door sedan, all run by the same 404hp V8. And at the very top are the M5 and M6, based on the 5-series sedan and 6-series coupe respectively, the coupe has a carbon fiber roof also to go with that 500hp V10 engine.

Currently the M1 Hommage has no interior and no drivetrain -- it's a rolling "shell." I think if the M1 Hommage were to become a production car, the car would have to have a turbocharged engine, since it represents two previous models that had turbos. The problem is that there are no current turbocharged engines that surpass either the V10 (500 hp) or the 7-series V12 (468hp -- no word on the 09's V12 power output yet, whether it will remain naturally aspirated or go turbocharged for more power). That and considering the name and its BMW M-Tradition, it would have to have a turbocharged engine from the mighty M division. Right now there are no turbocharged M-engines in production, but who knows?

Personally I hope they build it, but I would also like to see a closer resemblance to the 1978-1981 M1 model. They don't have to put the retractable headlights for the styling connection, but I would like to see some of the older car's other features to remain intact. Also, unlike the late 8-series and Z8 series cars, BMW needs to make this a limited production model to ensure exclusivity. The power output should also surpass the M5 and M6. Make it lightweight and skip the unnecessary luxury electronics (a traditional six-speed manual will do nicely). A street-legal racer with just enough comfort touches to please the driver would make this an ideal flagship car.
