Subject: That cable may not have been used in any US E38...

The reason that cable is a special order from Germany is probably because it was rarely, if ever, used in any US E38. That cable would only have been used in a car that had navigation but not DSP. I think that every US car with navigation also had DSP.

Just to test, you could probably find the equivalent cable for a standard audio car without DSP. However, those would only have been in a 1999 model year car. Navigation became standard in 2000. You can not use the CD cable from a 1998 or prior E38, because the wiring was different then. You might be able to find the longer standard audio cable from a 1999 or newer E39 5 Series.
