Subject: I would do them, and here is why

I took mine off at 138K miles and those gaskets...just like my valve cover gaskets, were as hard as a rock. They literally cracked apart when I removed them...and mine weren't even leaking yet. As long as you are removing the valve covers, it's probably an extra hour to remove the upper timing covers and pop new gaskets on.

Just make sure that when you replace the gaskets you follow the TIS instructions...i.e. put a dab of RTV in the corner where the upper and lower timing covers meet the engine, and you use the valve covers to press the upper timing covers into position. This is important! I had to do mine twice because I neglected this step.

1979 Cadillac Deville - AM Stereo (Doesn't work) - Power Windows (Doesn't work) - Power Locks (Work!) - Power Front Bench Seat (Kind of Works) - Stock!
