own) I bought a 15 passenger Ford Van. That worked great in the 80's. You may be very surprised as to what gas mileage the newer Chevy vans get w/ the 6.0l gas. I have 2 2005 1 3/4 t & 1 1 ton I'm very happy w/ the mileage. They are not much if any shorter than the Expedition but the mileage should be a lot better. A friend of has a 1 ton & he swears he can get 18-19 mpg on a 100 X 2 mile round trip on the interstate. After having mine for a year (I buy my vans used & at 1/2 price) I am a believer. I understand this doesn't make ANY sense to you but give it some thought. Used ones are cheap right now & I would think new ones can be had for some really good prices & super dealer financing.
