Perhaps if yours is a Dextron III version Pentosin is bad for the pump?

Take a look at your cap if you haven't already confirmed the proper type.

If you find you need to refill again, there's a handy drain plug on the bottom of the steering pump, which comes out with (if I remember right) an 8mm allen key. You can drain very easily this way, though you'd also need to flush out remaining stuff in the system.
