Subject: One good option: Amsoil

Get the Amsoil engine flush, their synthetic engine oil and 4 oil filters. After the flush, and oil change much you should see less oil burning. the more you run it on synthetic the more sludge is dissolved and finally burn no oil. Then change the filter after maybe 200 miles and depending on its appearance might change again after 500 or 1000 miles. The Amsoil synthetic is highly detergent and will dissolve more crud ffrom engine internals for a while hence frequent filter changes for a while. Oh and if you are doing mostly long distance driving you can leave their oil in for 25,000 to 100,000 miles, depending on oil analysis of your samples but you need to change the filters at normal oil change intervals.

if driving short distance or if you have oil leaks switch back from synthetic to good petroleum oil after the smoke thing is cleared up.

Other synthetics should also help at least some, but I've only used Amsoil and it has always wortked. Some people use a quart of tranny fluid in regular engine oil to do the same thing... but it will generate huge amount of smoke.
