Subject: Biaritz Blue '01 750iL and FireMist Red '00 Mercedes OR how I spent my...

Memorial Day Holiday.

I drove up from Austin to hang out with my 23 yr. old twin sons for the just passed long weekend and was fortunate to also hook up with 2 customers, 4 cars and make new friends. Dave B in N. Dallas has the Biaritz Blue 750iL and I had never seen one in the flesh before. Can a guy fall in love with a color? I'm going to dye my underwear Biaritz Blue! Really, really like this color. Dave B. also has the '00 Firemist Red SL500 Mercedes which Mrs. Dave B drives. Thanks for the opportunity Dave!!

Fortunately my sons helped me on both Sat. & Mon. and we finished two cars in about 8 hours of work on Sat. & the 750iL & Red Mercedes in 9 hours on Monday. It was so hot and humid, at times I was standing in perspiration that pooled in my sandles. A great big thanks to Logan & Clayton!! No bitchin', just hard work and lots of "Sure Dad, no problem."

The 750il had some moderate swirling due to random sand scratching, which the picture below depicts. It also had a moderate amount of oxidation which kept the paint from reaching its full potential. The paint looked cloudy and indistinct. The horizontal surfaces looked this way and the vertical surfaces were slightly less so.

The pic below is of the test area that I use to establish a regimen for the rest of the car. I was able to use GlossHaus Foundation II (FII - medium compound) and a yellow pad to remove most of the scratches and oxidation. This was the first pass result below.

For the remaining regimen, I applied FII & Orange Pad, then Foundation III (FIII - fine polish) and GlossHaus Glaze. The shot below of the driver side doors and quarter panel are after glaze, but before wax.

The remaining shots of the 750iL are after applying the durable Glosshaus Polymer Wax.

The Red Mercedes had a slightly more pronounced set of spider webbing, but also with holograms as a result of the scratches. I've tried to include a couple of shots to illustrate. The car looked pretty good after washing, but was difficult to look at in the sun. In the shade, it had a slightly dull shine. It had a slight oxidation layer as well.

The regimen for the Mercedes was:

Porter Cable 7336
FII & yellow Pad
FII & orange Pad
FIII & Orange Pad
Glaze & White Pad
GlossHaus Polymer applied with Black Pad

The next 4 pics are Before shots of the scratches and holograms.

The next pic is after FII with both the Yellow & Orange Pad. The additional GlossHaus applications really brought the visual clarity and depth to the paint. It looked stellar, IMHO!

These are the two cars we completed on Sat. The well intended owner took a carwash brush to the Mercedes and it had a fine set of linear scratches all over the car which created a fine haze and robbed the paint of any depth or clarity. Unfortunately, my shots don't show how the silver "sizzled" after treatment.
