When I pressure wash my engine, I avoid that zone like the plague. I cover the MAF and alternator with a rag. I never aim at anything specifically and use a light degreaser. Do not get water on the acoustic mat on the hood and keep the pressure washer on its lowest setting possible. Car off, engine off and disconnecting the battery is not a bad idea. Dry and wait a few moments before starting. Do not get the pulley network wet or you will have squeaks.
