Subject: el. steering column retrofit

I've been busy again this weekend. While my 750 is pretty much loaded I am still missing some options which I will probably never use anyway. One of them is an el. adjustable steering column.

Removing the column is reasonably easy. You have to remove the lower dashcover, the steering wheel and the instrument cluster. Then undo the bolts holding the upper part of the column to to rubber flex disc, the two bolts holding the bracket on which the manual adjust mounts and three bolts to the dashframe.

There is one snap off bolt used so that people like me won't remove the steering colum. As I wasn't going to reuse my old colum i pivoted it untill the metal tore. Grinding the bolt out with a dremel is also an option ofcourse.

Notice the tear at the lowerside of the manual column.

As I went from a non-airbag wheel (which IMHO is a nicer looking wheel) to an airbag wheel I still need to install the aluminium mounting block on the bottom of the colum (in picture two the el. colum shows it as missing). And ofcourse I need to install the airbag module wiring and sensors.

As my colum goes to the seat memory I will also need to replace the memory adaption wiring loom which goes from the seats to the door mirrors and the wiring inside the driver seat (the one with the el. clumn has more wires).
