Subject: I am happy to see the new mustang

after thirty years of constant failure from Ford.

I used to get mustangs as rental cars sometimes and I hated them til I got an 05. The looks are not the only thing that improved.

They got power out of the v6, and the car can actually handle speeds of over 45mph. In the previous car the rear end would slip out from under you under the slightest impediment to traction and then the "traction control" would kick in, preventing you from doing anything to correct this.

There are ergonomic improvements too, the old mustang let a LOT of rain in when riding around with the windows cracked. If the sun was out, you could not see any of the idiot lights on the dash (BRAKE.)

I am working on an old Maverick with a friend now. There are some LOL things about this car, such as the 250cid (~4 l) I6 engine that is rated under 100 sae hp from all the material I can dig up. I thought this had a lot of potential, as the 240Z - same era - gave 150hp. But they cast the intake manifold with its single 1.25" intake port as part of the iron head. I was thinking, I had a 280Z with the L-Jet ripped off and replaced by three 2-bbl side draft carbs so I had ~38mm venturi on each cylinder. Original rating 170HP, I think I was getting over 200, you could break traction on every shift in that car.

So, we think a metric 302 is in order to give us a reason to upgrade to disc brakes. '87 302.. 225hp.. not very impressive but it's no fun to keep it stock.
