Subject: Answer from hydraulics tech - re: durometer

I sent my friend some info and pictures posted on the board regarding our LAD regulator and strut to see if he could give us some insight into the proper type of or-rings for our applications. His reply is below:

"Without studying the parts it is difficult to know exactly what durometer you would need. You are not dealing with high temperatures and the while 2000 psi/135 bar sounds like a lot the pressure is relatively low in regard to hydraulics. A lower durometer would be ok for those parts not under a dynamic load. (In other words o-rings that do not have a moving part against them.) Determining the correct o-ring durometer is not only a matter of working pressure but also the amount, speed and frequency of travel. You would probably need a harder seal on the dynamic portions due to the fact that those o-rings would constantly be moving as the suspension goes up and down."

So am I correct that the regulator has relatively little movement in comparison to the strut? Does it only open and close when there is weight in the trunk?
