The part number of the blue electrical plug is 61136954554. You need only 2 wires, with terminals, part number 611300006663. I installed all 6 wires on the plug, but I wish I hadn't. They just take up space.

My car had a brown ground wire and plug just sitting there unused, so I wired it to pin 6 on the plug. Pin 4 gets 12V switched power, which I got from one of the wires going to the stock E32 switch. It doesn't work if you get the polarity wrong.


Wire routing is an issue. I moved all the wires to the left and tucked them out of the way. I zipp-tied some to the shifter cable (bottom of pic) and twist-tied the ribbon cable wires (top of pic) out of the way, so they don't get cut by the connector.


Also, if I was doing this again, I wouldn't use this big bulky 9-pin connector from Radio Shack. I would try to find something smaller, maybe use 2 4-prong connectors (there are 8 ribbon cable wires). That would probably tuck away easier.




Looks great! But since I had cut the lever too short the first time, I also had cut the E38 handle rod too short. So I'm watching eBay for another one.

I think I may also use a large drill bit to make a hole for the rod in the "Drive" position, so I can't accidentally push the shifter to neutral, like I sometimes do when I forget what gear I'm in. Also, while I was there, I inserted a shim between the shifter lever and the shifter base on the pivot rod, to tighten it up and remove the side-to-side slop.
