Pentosin 7.1 and 11S can be purchased from your local BMW dealer's parts dept. You can also find it online...check out the vendors listed at www.e38.org/e32 ...you may also find Pentosin hydraulic fluid at Mercedes Benz & VW/Audi/Porsche, Bentley, RR dealer's parts dept. You may have to request that they look it up in their inventory because if you get a young/new counter person, they may have not ever seen it before since the stuff doesn't fly off the shelf...but all of those marques have a model that has used the stuff at one point in time...so they probably have a can or two on the shelf. They may only have Pentosin CHF 11 S which came later and is synthetic. DO NOT mix the two types of fluids...but you can upgrade to CHF 11 S if you drain out the CHF 7.1 .

If the reservoir only has about an inch of fluid in it...means that you removed the screen and you can see the "stuff" that is stacked up on the bolt that runs down the center, right? (unless your mesh/screen basket is missing).

The reservoir should be filled to just below the little mesh screen basket that's at the top of the reservoir...if the basket is missing...fill to approx an inch BELOW the rim (see "A" in diagram below):

Thanks to "Q" for this write up and pics.
