Hi Mike,

You can use your key to manually unlock the trunk, if you like. You don't need the electric latch - just slide the key into the cylinder next to the latch, give it a turn once, and it should now be ready to be pressed in once to unlock the trunk. There are two batteries but in theory they are wired parallel so you should be able to hook the trickle charger up to the driver's side battery which is easiest to access and wait for it to charge both.

Ethan is right. The positive goes to the post you mention with the red plus sign on it. There is only one. The negative goes to the large "fourth" nut on the shock tower just a few inches away, or any other "suitable" ground.
