Subject: You need to change the car from Jap to Euro wiring

You car can be converted to propery Euro functionality

At the moment you have a Japanese nav system with Japanese traffic info receiver (the 3 media receiver) and Japanese telephone wiring for a Japanese telephone.

The whole system only works in Japan.

You are in New Zealand.

To get your nav system working in NZ:

1. Remove and discard the japanese nav computer (the DVD drive), the 3 media receiver, the JBIT telephone interface. These are all worthless and useless outside of Japan.

2. Adapt the nav wiring from Jap to Euro standard

3. Fit a Euro Mk3 or Mk4 nav computer in place of the Jap nav computer

4. If you want, adapt the Jap phone wiring from Jap to Euro standard, then fit a standard Euro phone module (the Bluetooth ULF)

5. Depending on the exact build date of your car, either re-program the radio from Jap to Euro mode, or replace the Jap radio tuner with a Euro tuner

Voila! A perfect, 100% functional Euro nav system, able to read NZ maps, and connect via bluetooth to your mobile phone (Vodafone or Telecom)

Regards, Jochen

PS: I've done lots of these changes to make Jap BMWs work in NZ. I know these systems inside out.
