It makes total sense, and explains my seat-of-the-pants experience for both chips. If the Dinan chips only work at WOT, they're pretty useless most of the time.

I suppose this is yet another example of the exponential power of technology. Everything advances everything else. If Dinan had the kind of computing power and software available today back in 1990, they probably could have also done an across-all-throttle-settings remap of the DMEs. And now, doing this kind of work is within reach of the dedicated enthusiast (no, I don't really know anything about Mr. Wolf Ganssauge, but that is my impression).

Given the longevity and enthusiast support of Bimmers in general, Dinan could probably do pretty well to update their entire product line with newer designs. I guess it's good for people like Wolf that they don't.
