UPDATE:

This is interesting, i have completed a shed load of research here....

I agree the link does say "if not USA cant do it" however this does not explain the "RHD ticket" thing above, there are other ways to import it, alot looks like an air of "we dont want it so will put you off" however from what i have seen the E38 does comply so should be able to be imported.

This said i have decided its way easier (as it would never sell here as a RHD) to buy a Cadillac Escualde ESV, with that end i might be a E39 (5 series) as a tie over for about 6 months to a year till i have enough money for the Escualde....

Interesting about the salt though, i did know this already but wasnt aware it was a such a problem, we dont use salt in the UK, its grit, best you get are stone chips somewhere on the bonnet.

I would look at purchasig the E38 you have in black but it would be driven in the snow and i dont think i would be the best to look after it as its a stepping stone....
