There are several reasons to use automotive or marine silicone.

1. Highly recommend using an Auto or Marine Silicone as it will not yellow like other clear silicone.
2. The silicone when cures will act as a shock or cushion for the AE's, when driving over bumps, or hitting potholes or deers.
3. Silicone is more forgiving, so if you wanted to remove it, it will remove semi-easily and your lens can be returned to a new like condition.
4. The silicone will skin and secure your lights in roughly 3-4 hours. At that time can be reasonably safe to be reassembled and will fully cure in about 24 hours.
