crankshaft position sensors, if they are dirty or out of order, car will not start.
read this thread
pics where to find

The upper one at about 2 o'cock is the sensor for DME 1 (closest to the windshield).
The one at 4 o'clock is for DME 2.

So the plug for DME 1/MOTRONIC 1 goes into the right side connector, the other one to DME2.

Measuring:
disconnect both sensor harness connectors:
Coil resistance (approx.) @ 20 Degree C 540 +/- 10% Ohm
Air gap (sensor distance from toothed wheel 1.0 =/- 0.3 mm

Replacement on M70 engine of sensor # 2 (lower one)
whem all componets have been unbolted and carefully set aside, rotate crank pulley/vibration damper so that gap in toothed rim wheel aligns with sensor mounting bolt.
Remove bolt and sensor.
Remove power steering pump pulley.
Remove power steering pump mounting bracket and pump.

Tightening torque: 7 =/- 1 Nm

Regarding the cylinder identification sensor: maybe these pics help
