Correct me if I am mistaken, but cars of the same make and model usually but not always get serial numbers in order of production (trim levels within a model line are usually distinguished by one of the preceding digits or letters). Usually cars of the same model but different engines and trim levels are manufactured in the same plant (again not always). So the lower number would correspond to an earlier model USUALLY but not always.
