You can find this info if you pull up the instrument cluster using any of the online part databases...or the BMW ETK parts CD. Just an extra FYI for those of you getting excited...check your car's mfg date before running out to buy a 1995 instrument cluster. 8-)

In fact, there are two (discontinued) clusters with the small box on the rear...one was used from 1995-5/97 build date...and the other was used from 1995-9/97 build date:



from 9-97-up...BMW used a different instrument cluster that does NOT use the small box on the rear:
