Subject: Isolating the heater core from engine cooling sys

The plastic pipes and heater core have arrived from Autohauzaz but I need to find a big chunk of time to do the install. In the meantime I plugged the hoses by the firewall to separate engine cooling from cabin heating. So for now I am driving with gloves and scarf on and no heating--still OK in Bay Area in CA.
Here is what I did:
Removed the heater valve assembly. In fact that is the easier way to reach the hose clamps at the firewall heater inlet/outlet. See photo of the cavity.

The lowest opening of the three-way hose (below the expansion tank) and the hose end that would have attached to the inlet of the heater valve assembly are plugged by some 3/4 inch aluminum cylindrical thingy that I hacked (See photo 2). With grooves cut in the body for grabbing to the hose rubber.
For anyone that wants to do same you can find in local hardware store big socket cap bolts with 3/4 inch cap diameter. Wrap some wires on the shank section so that it is just slightly smaller than the cap itself. Keep the wires in with a nut. Then insert to hose and clamp between the cap and wires. That should keep the bolt from slipping off.
