Subject: What Brian said -- my 1999 750iL is a happy BT car!

The upgrade is well worth buying through Bimmernav since Martin has thought through pretty much everything.

You do not need to upgrade your nav computer or nav screen to install or use Bluetooth.

You will need to remove the current 6000VR phone electronics in the trunk since it won't be needed any more. You'll also replace the eject cradle in the center console with the Bluetooth cradle and (if you want) a snap-in adapter for your phone.

Is it reliable? Absolutely. Safe, completely hidden from view, and pretty flexible given my car has 111,000 miles and is almost 10 years old. I have a RAZR snap-in adapter which looks just like Brian's.

I highly recommend getting the BMW bracket for the ULF in the trunk since it is a perfect fit and sits nicely in the CD changer area. Note that Bimmernav does not sell this, but it's listed in the Bimmernav instructions that ship with the kit.

There are a couple of other "recommended" parts like the Bluetooth passkey card and the owner's manual that aren't required but are only $8 or so total from the dealer. Since you'll be going to the dealer anyway, might as well order them up!

The one note of caution if you do choose to install the bracket, etc., is to first place the order with Bimmernav, receive the parts, and then see what you need to get from the dealer. That way you won't be all fired up to install your system the day you get it from Martin, because in doing 3 BT installs I always found myself a screw or bracket short, and since I like things stock, I chose not to use velcro or duct tape to keep things together.

Removing your current phone system would take about an hour, and installing the BT system would take about 2 -- the hardest part being the fishing of the antenna lead through the C-pillar opening.

If you've poked around your stereo before in the trunk then you can probably do it a little faster.
