Subject: My first E32 repair: Replaced broken oil filter housing mounting bolts

The rubber mounting bolts for the oil filter housing in my '92 750iL were both broken, allowing the oil filter housing to bounce around on its stem -- not good. I've heard of these breaking quite often on other BMW's, too, so I'm not surprised to see it but I am surprised that the regular mechanic used by the previous owner didn't bother to replace them.

The local BMW dealer had new bolts for only a few dollars and replacement was easy. Just a 10mm socket to remove the nut washers on top and then the bottom section of the rubber unscrewed from the mounting plate beneath it -- no need to get a wrench in there under it.
